Here are some sweet and fun sugar cookies for a bachelorette party or bridal shower. I wanted something fairly easy to make for dessert for the girls at the bachelorette party without breaking the bank. (The ones on Etsy were $30-40!)
To create these cute lingerie cookies, you can use your favorite sugar cookie recipe or use store-bought cookie dough. I made my own sugar cookie recipe. Roll out the dough about 1/4 inch thick.
Use a heart cookie cutter and a knife to cut off the tip of the heart.
Place on a lined baking sheet. (For some reason, I grabbed a round pan.)
Bake according to recipe/package.
While the cookies bake, create the royal icing using:
- 1 tablespoon meringue powder
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of water
- gel food coloring (a little goes a long way)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (to help the royal icing taste better)
This was my first time making royal icing so I didn’t spend a lot on gel food coloring just in case this turned out to be a total fail. I purchased Wilton’s Gel Food Coloring at Michael’s with a coupon and mixed green and blue together. I was aiming for a teal color but ended up with a bright Tiffany blue.
Make sure the icing is thick and not runny since you will use it to line the cookies. Scoop 1/3 of the icing into a piping bag.
After all of the cookies are lined with royal icing, mix in a couple teaspoons of water into the 2/3 leftover icing until it becomes runny.
I didn’t know how much icing I needed so I was very conservative when I flooded my cookies.
Add some dots or lines to create fun patterns. The icing takes about half an hour to set. You can see how there are areas of concavity in the cookies because the icing spread so thin 😦
